How to change music speed easily

Many guitar players use guitar pro tablature to learn songs or music that they like. Learn every note from a much slower tempo until its original speed or faster. However, there are times when you are just stuck at some point of the tempo before reaching the real tempo, let say at 80% of the speed. And that is where changing the music speed is essential.

Keep it fun to master guitar playing

To be able to play the guitar part of certain songs especially that have difficult licks or technicality, you must be able to have fun and at least jam along with the songs. Recently, I bought the Andy James backing track to jam along.

Here’s come the part when you need to change the music speed to be able to play every note that has been laid down for you to play.

Application for changing music speed

Personally, for PC, I prefer Audacity to change the tempo of any music that I like. The simplicity of its interface makes it easier for beginner to play around with the software.

The photo above shows the interface of Audacity. Let us start changing the music or song that you like.

  1. Drag and drop the music file onto the gray area or you can do that by clicking File > Open, and browse for the song.
  2. Next thing is to press CTRL + A on the keyboard. I will select the entire track.

3. After that, click Effect > Change Tempo.

If you want the music to be 80% of its original speed, make sure that you put -20% at the Percent Change box. Meaning to say, you want the music to be 20% slower than the actual speed of the song.

Then click Ok. And that is all. You can directly play the song the through Audacity or export it to .mp3, .wav and others if you like. To do that, click File > Export and select the file type you want.

With more than 10 years of working experiences, I find myself to be a dynamic person who adapts to the changes of working environment. Even though I am multitasking, I do not consider myself as an expert in the niche of what I do. Nevertheless, I believe I have a fair amount of knowledge that many people might find very useful.
